Our House in Goa - A quick view from all sides (March to May)

I am adding a comment today, September 11, 2007. Soon, I will be returning to Goa for a "look-see" after the monsoon rains, so look forward to a lot of fresh photos then. It's the first monsoon so understandably, any shortcomings in construction will be most obvious now.

Above is my dear husband having a little fun at Benaulim Beach - it was one of the few days we actually had time for a little R & R, with all the many things that needed to be completed on and around the house.--

The polishwallah is applying polish to the teakwood cupboards, and the last photo is one of an alternate use for window grills - clothes hanger!

The lilac room is finished and feels cool and lovely with its balcony opening onto a large mango tree across the narrow street of the development.

Oops! One photo of me in the guest bath mirror is upside down!

Last shot is one of the carpenters working on kitchen cabinets, using traditional woodworker's methods.

The carpenter's crew at work in the kitchen, and tilework being completed around the back patio

On top a snap of Mr. Parasnath Sharma, the carpenter.

More photos of the prep work before tile can be layed (rear patio). Then a shot of the grill being attached to the window frame in the dining room. Note the stained glass (leaf pattern) I designed and had made by a glass shop. It came out nicely and adds a colorful touch to the folding French Door.

A closeup of the front entrance (light green marble steps), then painting in progress in the lilac room, a shot of the yellow bedroom and the terrace off the master bedroom

Around the house

Going from front of the house to the side - plus a photo of Kamala, who worked on the construction crew along with her three young children. Kamala carried brick when needed, did the sweeping inside and outside the house and construction site, and any odd job that came along. She has three children between the ages of approx. 10 to 15. Each of them already worked, mainly carrying brick. The little one often fetched water but once in a while already did harder work. Often, though, he was able to ride a bike with another boy - something they greatly enjoyed.

Tile work around the house & kitchen carpentry

Fun in the sun and progress report on the house
